In this section, Denis Pugh makes an introduction and talks about hitting the ball on a bunker. There are so many different shots that you can play in the bunker but the key to being a good bunker player is understanding your bunker club.
In this section, Denis Pugh will teach you the characteristics of a good bunker club. Use your most lofted club and you should also look at the bounce of the club because clubs come with different bounces. What the bounce means is how the back edge is in relation to the front edge.
In this section, Denis Pugh will talk about the principle of sand play. The principle of sand play is very simple- you try to skip the bunker club into the sand. The front edge of the club should be leaning forward to dig in into the sand and the back edge should have skipping effect into the sand. To encourage that effect, it is good to open the face of the club to the right and compensate by aiming your stance a little to the left. In the swing itself do not try to hit the ball directly, instead hit the sand inches behind the ball so it is better to move the ball forward at your swing center. Do not bang the club hard on the sand just to get behind the ball, instead use the same swing you use when pitching. Hitting in the sand is like doing a fat pitching swing.
